Qosmos and ECI Telecom Partner for NFV Development

Summary: Qosmos ixEngine® enables dynamic, application-aware service chaining for ECI’s Mercury™ NFV solution.

Paris, France – November 3, 2016: Qosmos®, the market leader in embedded IP traffic classification and network intelligence technology, and ECI, a global provider of ELASTIC network® solutions to CSPs, critical infrastructures as well as data center operators, announced today a technical partnership for service chaining of network functions on NFV platforms.

ECI’s Mercury NFV solution enables service providers to address the many challenges they face in leveraging the most value from their network assets in the rapidly evolving technological landscape. Benefits include: 1) Improved business processes leading to a reduction in OPEX/CAPEX, 2) Improved customer experience through shorter time to market and increased agility to mix and match best of breed solutions in one platform and 3) a future proof solution that adapts as needs change. Mercury offers a rich library of ECI and third party VNFs and comes with full management and orchestration modules which were designed for interoperability based on ECI’s long term experience. The Mercury NFVi platform is available as a dedicated carrier-grade COTS appliance as well as a blade within the Neptune packet optical product line for full integration.

ECI’ Mercury leverages Qosmos ixEngine to strengthen service chaining of network functions (VNFs). Qosmos ixEngine recognizes traffic up to Layer 7 using Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and associated techniques (heuristics, statistical, behavioral, etc.). It classifies traffic flows in real time, so that ECI’s Mercury can dynamically send and chain relevant traffic to the different VNFs.

“The combination of ECI’s Mercury and Qosmos ixEngine creates a solid foundation to deliver comprehensive solutions including service function chaining in the form of highly effective traffic steering function,” said Erez Zelikovitz, VP SDN/NFV Network Solutions Business Line at ECI.  “This capability tunnels traffic flows to pertinent Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) to create value add services, support high availability while saving considerably on network resources.”

“In competitive markets, with rapid innovation at the application layer, telecom operators need to strengthen their ability to provide new services,” said Thibaut Bechetoille, CEO at Qosmos.  “They are looking for fast and easy service creation, and at a lower cost than today. A key ingredient to achieve these goals is intelligent service function chaining based on real-time traffic intelligence.”

Qosmos ixEngine is a Software Development Kit (SDK) composed of libraries and tools that are easily integrated into networking and security products. It is already established as the de facto industry-standard for IP classification and metadata extraction engine based DPI. Security specialists use Qosmos to gain application visibility, accelerate development and strengthen capabilities of new solutions.
